Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to investigate ecological flow networks via graph theory in search of the real sequential chains through which energy passes from producers to consumers in complex food webs. Fundamental pathways were obtained by identifying strongly connected components (SCCs) subsystems that groups species that take part in cycling, and performing topological sorting on the acyclic graphs that are obtained.

Article Abstract:
The principles of NKS (new kind of science) developed by Stephen Wolfram are discussed with emphasis on cellular automata. NKS is applied to some central problems of ecology like the possibility of establishing general ecological laws, the existence of vacant niches, the importance of interspecific competition and the causes of latitudinal gradients in species diversity.

Article Abstract:
The possible changes in community properties during bacterial biofilm succession are described. The driving factor in the primary succession of any taxonomic group is the increase in resource and habitat heterogeneity.
