Article Abstract:
An improved mathematical matrix approach that includes the application of minimum link matrices, interpretative structural models as well as exponential and linear equations is used to analyze environmental impact assessments. The approach is based on six environmental impact indicators calculated in an ordinal scale. The advantages of the matrix technique over other methods and the application of the approach in a case study of La Venta-Colegio highway project in Mexico City, Mexico, are discussed.

An index based on multiattribute utility theory (MAUT) provides improvements in the evaluation and communication of environmental impacts of electric utilities to assist in proper electrical system planning. MAUT can be used as a framework for the overview of decision analysis. It also facilitates better interaction between stakeholders and regulators. Areas of its applications and trade-offs between the environmental index and costs are discussed.

The Impact Analysis for Panning Model is used to incorporate the economic aspects of recreational uses of riverflows in the Grand Canyon Dam Region. The outdoor recreation sector of the economy is comparatively labor intensive, resulting in a potential 585 jobs. ASs job creation is a factor given great public weight by the public, inclusion of recreational use and related employment in environmental assessments should become more common.
