Analysing water resources alternatives and handling criteria by multi criterion decision techniques

Article Abstract:

Multi criterion decision making (MCDM) techniques help to analyse water resources management alternatives and evaluate the discriminative power of each criterion. Identifying satisfactory water resources projects in the Austrian portion of the Danube river provides a case study for application of the MCDM techniques. The alternatives include construction of a hydroelectric station, national park and energy import. The criteria include ecological, economic, and sociological interests. Criterion selection is integral to the MCDM technique as it provides an understanding of the structural problems.

Climate extremes and adaptive management on the Colorado River: lessons from the 1997-1998 ENSO event

Article Abstract:

The article tracks the processes within Colorado's Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program, which converts climatic and environmental information into responsive water resource management policies. It focuses on the points at which this data enters the policy-making stream, using the El Nino-Southern Oscillation event in 1997-1998 as an illustration.
