Article Abstract:
Studies conducted in India using the Sediment Yield Index (SYI) model developed by the All India Soil and Land Use Survey for priority delineation in River Valley Projects indicate 60% sediment load reduction in the watershed. Integrated Resources Units (IRUs), the smallest viable planning unit for watershed development, are also discussed. IRUs are comprised of watershed resources like siltation and area, and are the strategic unit for assigning the erodibility and transportability values of the displaced materials in the SYI model for grading priority class of sub-watersheds.

Article Abstract:
Research indicates that invertebrate biomass increases in High Plains wetlands that were moist-soil managed and/or had longer hydroperiods, or floodings, than wetlands that were not managed and/or had shorter floodings. Invertebrate biomass measurements were obtained using water-column, epiphytic and benthic core samplers; the most abundant taxon was the Planorbidae snail.

Article Abstract:
The role of soil and erosion in the carbon cycle by quantitatively assessing soil erosion, translocation, redeposition, oxidation and CO2 sequestration across the five major river subsystems in the Mississippi (MS) Basin is described. Soil erosion at the MS Basin scale is a net CO2 sink rather than a source.
