An expert system developed for selecting the effective waste management alternative offers a package for the decision making processes. The system involves information on economic and technical, and social and political aspects of the problem. The expert system is suitable for waste management in the pulp and paper industry. The system supports the current treatment facilities used by the companies for waste management in pulp and paper industry.

Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the use of unit pricing of residential solid waste in nine communities to determine whether such approach would improve households' waste behavior patterns. These communities are located in California, Illinois and Michigan and use variable fee structures. Results showed that unit pricing encourage some limited waste reduction and diversion behavior. Waste diversion was mostly through recycling and yard waste collection.

Article Abstract:
I. Ajzen's theory of planned behavior is used to determine pro-environmental intention and behavior of people in their use of containers for recyclable wastes. Another objective is to evaluate the social influence of mass media in promoting favorable attitude toward recycling. To ascertain these objectives, a survey was conducted on waste recycling activities of 173 Hong Kong household members. The results of the survey are discussed.
