British researchers found that the seeds of the Moringa oleifera and Moringa stenopetala species can be utilized as water purifiers. Although the crushed seeds of the indigenous African trees remove a significant amount of bacteria through coagulation and flocculation, the water still requires further disinfection. The trees can withstand drought, grows rapidly and produces around 10,000 seeds a year. The experimental project situated in Thyolo will pioneer water treatment in Southern Malawi on an industrial level.
