Environmental conditions and chemical response of a transplanted lichen to an urban area

Article Abstract:

Environmental conditions and emission sources of pollution in Cordoba, Argentina, were monitored by transplanting the fruticose lichen Ramalina ecklonii (Spreng.) Mey. and Flot to 28 biomonitoring sites. The biomonitoring sites were selected based on various environmental conditions that include trees, buildings, traffic, industries and altitude. Redundancy analysis was used to analyze the relationships among lichen chemical and environmental variables. Mitigation of power sector environmental emissions through energy efficiency improvements: the case of Pakistan

Article Abstract:

The potential benefits of using efficient electrical appliances in power generation and in decreasing the emission of air pollutants from Pakistan's power sector are analyzed. From a national perspective, some 14%, 21% and 35% of the total CO2, SO2 and NO emissions, respectively, may be avoided through the use of selected efficient appliances from 1997 to 2015. On the other hand, the corresponding figures to these environmental emissions from the perspective of the user are 12%, 17% and 29%, respectively.
