The Appalachian section of Ohio has about a 17% unemployment rate, but the Appalachian Center of Economic Networks is helping to revitalize the area's economy. The organization is encouraging the production and promotion of hundreds of small manufacturing firms in the region.

The Dept. of Energy's Weatherization Assistance Program entails the installation of storm windows, furnaces and boilers. It can thus generate job opportunites in construction and retail as well as pass on energy savings to companies and their employees.
