Mannesmann Demag Energie-und Umwelttechnik of Dusseldorf, Germany, is constructing a pyrolysis- and coke-gas-plant in Hamm-Uentrop, Germany. The plant will treat industrial and household waste products with a capacity of 100,000 metric tons per year. After the plant's scheduled completion, it will be consolidated to an adjacent power plant owned by VEW Energie AG of Dortmund, Germany. Mannesmann will supply fuel to VEW Energie's power plant with pyrolysis and coke gas which will be coming from its newly built treatment plant.

Krupp-Uhde GmbH is building a nitric acid plant for EC Erdolchemie GmbH in Koln-Worringen, Germany. The plant, with a capacity of 1,500 mt/d, will produce only nitric acid with the azeotropic composition 68.25% HNO3. It is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2001 and will be the first to use EC Erdolchemie's dual-pressure process only azeotropic HNO3. Krupp- Uhde customized the process for the azeotropic acid by a special design of the adsorption tower.

Chematur Engineering AB of Sweden is building a continuous-hydrogenation plant for Thomas Swan & Co in Consett, UK. The plant will be able to use supercritical carbon dioxide as the solvent in producing fine chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates. Supercritical carbon dioxide facilitates the dissolution of hydrogen, resulting in more efficient reactions. The plant will have CO2 flowrate of 1,000 kg/h and a pressure rating of 500 bars.
