Transferring world class production to developing countries: a strategic model

Article Abstract:

A study investigated strategic issues involved in technology transfer to developing nations and identified the key factors related to effective production system operations in emerging markets. It developed a model for the selection of production technology for facilities in such nations that incorporates the interrelationships among these critical factors. This five-step model allows for sequential decisions on product and process, a production systems approach and the selection of suitable human resource and operational policies to support it.

However, more attention must be given to cultural differences between countries to allow greater assimilation and more productive use of 'foreign technology.'
