Tim Lambert is the chief executive of the Electrical and Electronics Industries Benevolent Association (EEIBA), which will promote itself at the industry's show, ElectroTech, in June 1996. Lambert has been in charge of the charity, which is in difficulty, since the end of 1994. According to Lambert, who was previously employed by the Motor Allied Trades Benevolent Fund and the Parkinson's Disease charity, the reshaping of the power industry has resulted in lost contacts, and the National Lottery has deprived charities of funds. Revenue fell by 71,000 pounds sterling in 1995.

US-based Hilti, a producer of tools and fasteners, has reorganised its UK arm's customer services and centered them in Manchester, England. A new sales system, pioneered in the US, is being rolled out across the UK and a toll-free telephone number has been provided for customers wishing to make orders. They will automatically be put through to a regional office where they can dictate their orders to highly trained operators who undergo a 500 hour training programme. The system leaves trade counter staff at Hilti's shops with the time to deal with personal customers.

A 1.5 million pounds sterling system of busbar trunking from Telemecanique is being installed in Vauxhall Motors' Ellesmere Port plant in the United Kingdom within the requirements of Vauxhall that the installation should be effected with no interruption to production. The 2200 A heavy busbar, which will supply all electrical power to the main production areas, consists of three ring mains. That means in the event of a fault, supply can be switched or areas isolated, ensuring minimum production disruption.
