Article Abstract:
TDA Research Inc has devised a process for reducing carbon dioxide emissions in electric energy production. The process, called Sorbent Energy Transfer System (SETS), has already been tested inside the laboratory. TDA, which intends to begin integrating the processes involved in SETS in late 2001, estimates the cost of the procedure at $25 per metric ton of captured carbon dioxide.

Article Abstract:
Material Sciences Corp (MSC) of Elk Grove Village, IL, has developed a technology for mixing plastics that are difficult to blend using conventional melt-extrusion techniques. The technique, called Solid State Shear Pulverization (S3P), combines the plastic materials without using heat and might be capable of producing new plastics that have advanced properties. MSC's S3P extrusion process uses high shear rates and pressures to break the chemical bonds that exist between molecules.

Article Abstract:
GEConcept Technology has developed a new process for producing ethylene that can reduce capital costs by 35% and energy costs by 45%. The novel process uses the natural-gas plant as the methane refrigeration system, which reduces the number of cooling stages from three to one for ethylene refrigeration, and from four to two for propylene cooling. Methane is used to reflux the demethanizer, eliminating more than half of the demethanizer equipment.
