Article Abstract:
A method for continuous-time optimal control scheduling problems in flexible manufacturing systems was developed. With respect to multi-level bills of materials, the systems operated under arbitrarily changing demand profiles. Production and setup processes were modeled using differential equations. One significant improvement of the developed method over the direct approach was its replacement of the original problem with two simplified problems constructed which favors a cyclical solution tending to the solution of the original problem.

Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to evaluate the development of incentives for firms to invest in product flexibility. The study considers a game theoretic model and focuses on the cost firms must incur to manufacture such a product. Uncertainty and the strategic interaction of firms were also considered for the analysis. Results show that firms should exert more effort in producing flexible products when the probability of raising the ratio of price to variable cost is high.

Article Abstract:
A model was developed to detect desirable economic production rates of various products produced in a single facility. The model takes into account upper and lower limits present in every production rate. It also acknowledges mold costs that are included in the overall cost function so as to determine highest possible production rates with least production-related costs.
