Enhanced bearing design extends operating range

Article Abstract:

Kingsbury has introduced a new tilt-pad thrust bearing that eliminates a high-temperature phenomenon when the bearing is operating in the high- speed, low-end mode. The bearing features a tilt-pad designed to maintain a proper tilt angle over the operating range. The tilt-pad also has a taper that generates hydrodynamic film pressure on the leading edge of the pad, creating a moment opposite to the viscous drag moment.
