Killing quality with kindness: expecting (and receiving) the best performance from your employees

Article Abstract:

Executives face significant challenges as they seek to show respect for employees and indicate confidence in employees' abilities while also ensuring that performance standards are maintained. Backing down on standards can have a negative impact on even the best quality assurance schemes. Executives need to focus not only on ensuring employee satisfaction, but also on ensuring that employees can work towards a business target. It is important to set a target and to obtain employee feedback on the best way to reach it. Performance standards must be in place, and all employees must be responsible for reaching them.
