HF signal paths vital to EMC performance

Article Abstract:

Once the behaviour of high frequency signals is understood, curcuit immunity to inerference can be improved and emissions can be reduced. Attention should be paid to EMC requirementes in the initial design stage, and the EMC performance of a two layer board can be improved by routing high speed tracks next to their ground returns. EMC problems with PC systems are often related to pick-up and radiation from screening and it is recommended that a cable screen should be connected to a metallic enclosure.

Foams are strong enough to hold up the trains

Article Abstract:

Sekisui Chemical, one of Japan's leading manufacturers of pre-fabricated houses, has established a strong reputation for its structural plastic foams. It has developed a new honeycomb polyolefin foam which is significantly stronger than polystyrene foams and is recyclable. It has also developed a self-expanding foam that creates air-tight and chemical-tight seals. The base material is a closed cell polyethylene foam that takes up to 10 days to complete its expansion.

Hydrostatic drives go digital

Article Abstract:

Digitally controlled hydrostatic transmissions are expected to be used in the construction industry following a five-year research project by Fluid Power Technology in Sweden. The first application about to be tested is a wheel loader, where its performance is will be optimised by the use of pump and motor servos technology. Testing will take place on rough and smooth lanscapes with differing loads, and a lower fuel consumption is expected.
