Furon Co.'s Aerospace Components Division's overall performance has improved tremendously with its adoption of a computer integrated management system (CIM). Work and raw material inventory decreased by 25% while dollar inventory accuracy increased by 99%. In addition, complete jobs, routers and materials release processes have been shortened from 2.5 weeks to 3 days, with corresponding increases in bills of materials accuracy and delivery speed . Aware of the pitfalls of improper use, the company has ensured success with the CIM system by training all personnel.

US aerospace and defense manufacturers usually encounter budgetary problems and protracted development time because of the recession and tight competition. Tolo Inc, however, can finish all stages of tooling and manufacturing within a given time frame and budget. The firm completed a subcontract for Hughes Electro Optical Operations. Tolo workers managed to lessen the product cycle time of 30 infrared targeting pods by seven months. Tolo also employed statistical process control to foster manufacturing quality and facilitate assembly process.

Grumman Corp initiated a campaign to reorient its efforts toward the achievement of total consumer satisfaction. The Grumman Quality process aims to realize this goal through strict adherence to total quality, better communication, incentives to deserving employees and the creation of more efficient processes. Specifically, the company plans to reducetotal cycle time and defects in all operational levels by 50% and obtain a score of 800 in the Malcom Baldrige National Quality Award.
