Article Abstract:
A study developed a generic system which relies on case-based reasoning in attempting to cover a broad area of different types of manufacturing environments. The analysis specifically formulated an information system that supports decision making, within the context of production planning and control, in case-based production scheduling. The system tries to recognize, classify and solve new problems with the help of well known results.

Article Abstract:
A production scheduling model is developed based on the objective-oriented modelling paradigm to show how problem description and solution can be combined. The model integrates declarative representation and algorithmic solutions, and is generated for specific set of problems. It can also be modified to fit different manufacturing environments. Application of the model to job shop scheduling is discussed.

Article Abstract:
A method is developed for scheduling production in a chemical plant. The method is divided into two stages, namely, the assignment of jobs to equipments followed by the optimization of the order of jobs using simulated annealing or tabu metaheuristics. It is shown that the method provides optimal schedules for job-shops while its flexibility allows its application in various job-shop operations.
