Article Abstract:

Biotechnology will increasingly be used in plastics manufacture, leading to lower costs and new products. The structure of polyolefins can be rearranged to enhance their performance and materials based on spider silk may be synthesized. Applications for the new products are expected to include packaging, fibers and engineered parts. Du Pont has filed 582 patent claims for its Versipol catalysts which instill higher properties in polyolefins.

A description is presented concerning the design and construction of a technique which can be used to split rocks or demolish buildings without the need for explosive materials. The use of air guns to split rocks is discussed.
