Are U.S. manufacturers becoming slackers?

Article Abstract:

US firms allegedly let go of product quality when experiencing extreme profitability and growth. This decrease in quality services and products is indicated by the increasing number of scrap rates and customer complaints. A situation which may be unlikely if the economy is failing is when everybody scramble to survive by improving on their quality. However, this allegation is highly disputed by some sectors, claiming that it is common knowledge to manufacturers that when they reduce their quality, they will surely run out of business.

Nine-step process solves product variability problems

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers can follow a nine step process, which combines engineering and manufacturing expertise, statistical techniques and common sense, in solving product variability problems. As they focus on the problem, manufacturers should also quantify their output by developing a variable scale, conduct multivari studies and constantly test the variables. More importantly, pre- and post-experimental evaluation of the variables is necessary.
