Article Abstract:
A terraced house has been fitted with equipment and facilities for the disabled to show that they can live independent lives if they have access to the right equipment. An infrared/radio frequency controller called a Possum Travelling Companion controls 232 operations within the house and is activated by a switch or by various movements of a person's body. The door opens in response to a signal, while lights, the television, radio and compact disc player also come on. The house has an intercom system, a lift to the upper floor and hoists in the bedroom and bathroom.

Article Abstract:
The growing demand for computer and electrical technology has led to an increased market for equipment which suppresses transient voltage surges thus preventing costly damage and down time. Continuous power surges may not have an immediate effect on equipment but will, over time, lead to a costly failure. Transient voltage surge suppressers act at four separate levels, providing protection for equipment lower down the chain of distribution.
