A new resin cuts the cost of removing impurities in chlor-alkali plants

Article Abstract:

Nippon Rensui Co., based in Tokyo, Japan, has introduced to the market an amphoteric ion-exchange resin, which can eliminate sodium sulfate and sodium chlorate impurities from brine in chlor-alkali facilities. The resin was developed to be used for plants that depend on membrane technology. These facilities normally transform around half of the chloride to chlorine, and the impurities congregate in the recycled brine, which is replaced by fresh sodium chloride solution. Takashi Ishii, sales manager for the Plant Division of the firm, said impurities are currently eliminated through precipitation with barium chloride or by removing a portion of the brine.
