Warehouse site selection is a complex process which, nevertheless, is essential to an effective distribution plan within the bigger framework of a logistics management scheme. Because of its advantage over traditional methods, a particular warehouse site selection scheme that uses an analytic hierarchy process-based method is favored. Its main advantage lies in the ability to consider both tangible and intangible determinants.

A decision support system for strategic issues management of logistics

Article Abstract:

A decision support system (DSS) for managing logistics activities is developed based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The AHP breaks down a complex, multicriteria problem into a hierarchy to determine priorities of decision alternatives. The DSS can be used for predicting the effects of strategic issues in company and logistics objectives as well as determining actions for respond to these strategic issues.

An Analytic Hierarchy Process-based method of inventory demand forecasting appears to be an improvement over traditional approaches insofar as the inclusion of difficult variables and the depth of its predictions are concerned. Such inventory forecasting is a central feature of logistics management, which has become an essential feature of modern-day corporate management.
