A crisis in health care

Article Abstract:

Several critical areas should be evaluated before a total quality management (TQM) program is adapted to the health care industry. Factors such as measure of quality, customer relations, attitudes of medical practitioners and the nature of services should be considered. The TQM program should have a modified terminology, a data analysis system, a clear quality measurement method and a training scheme which is acceptable to medical professionals. The health care group must further develop a working relationship with proponents of quality management.

Implementing TQM in health care requires adaptation and innovation

Article Abstract:

Total quality management (TQM), which was effective in the manufacturing sector, can be used to improve health care services. However, critical differences should be considered for successful implementation of TQM. These include the professional nature of the medical practice, the difficulty involved in evaluating the process, non-applicability of TQM languages in the health sector and the possible occurrence of conflicts between health care providers and administrators.

What are good health care measurements?

Article Abstract:

A standard for evaluation of health care services is presented. The criteria focus on continuous upgrade of quality management and include collectibility of data, high standard of quality, use of relatively lower technology, bias toward variable data and adoption of customer-oriented procedures. Staff and management cooperation in simplified operations also characterizes the measures that should be adopted.
