Change is in the air
Article Abstract:
Air traffic control is verging on revolutionary change because of benefits likely to be provided by the global positioning system (GPS). All trasoceanic flights are already equipped with GPS receivers, and Continental Airlines' entire fleet has GPS on board. American Airlines is equipping its fleet, and even private pilots can purchase GPS systems, which currently are priced under $2000. A report released by Johns Hopkins University envisions a time when GPS will be the only navigation system installed in airplanes and the only navigation service provided by the FAA.
