Article Abstract:
The Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), a program of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, received 16 awards amounting to $4.2 million. Ten awards valued at about $2.4 million are allotted for training and equipment for MEP-center field agents. Five awards amounting to $509,000 and beyond, are for human resource development and workplace improvement while an award in excess of $1 million is earmarked for information systems.

There are several misconceptions about the CE marking, which is a prerequisite in dealing with the European Community. Some perceive it as a mark of quality while others think that the CE marking is a method employed by the EU to deter American companies from doing business with them. On the other hand, the CE marking is a strategy to facilitate business with the EU by removing trade barriers and serving as a passport.

Creative Technique Inc, a supplier of custom injection-molded and structural-foam returnable containers and packaging for Ford Motor Co, received the Ford Q1 supplier achievement award. The achievement award was given for meeting the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) 9001, QS-9000 and Ford's Quality Operating System (QOS) requirements for the company's injection molder in 4.5 months.
