Article Abstract:

The contract held by independent power producer (IPP) Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) with the Malaysian government to build the Bakun Dam part of the $6 billion hydroelectric plant may be terminated. After several financial disasters, the Malaysian government has threatened to suspend all IPP projects until 2000 to halt building of unneeded capacity.
