Japanese production of crystal devices up 21.5% in August

The Quartz Crystal Industry Assn of Japan reported that domestic production of crystal devices in Japan reached 458.7 million units in Aug 2000, 21.5 higher by volume than during the year-ago period. Production value also went up by 47.9% to 25.04 billion yen, with average prices increasing by 54.2 yen. Production of crystal oscillators and crystal units was 50 higher than for the corresponding period in 1999 due to strong demand for mobile communications equipment.

Japanese production of crystal units rises 55%

Statistics from the Quartz Crystal Industry Assn of Japan show that Japan's production of crystal devices was up by 52.6% to 419.8 million units in Apr 2000, compared to Apr 1999. The rise in shipments is fueled by a firm demand from manufacturers of information and communications products. Crystal devices with the strongest demand include tuning-fork crystal units, industrial-use crystal oscillators and crystal oscillators for clocks.

Mobile phones spur soaring orders for crystal devices

Article Abstract:

Japanese manufacturers of crystal devices are enjoying a boom related to soaring sales of mobile phones overseas. Sales of crystal devices have been growing 10% monthly since Oct 1998, according to the Quartz Crystal Industry Assn. The number of orders have begun to surpass production in Dec 19998, forcing many manufacturers to raise production. Analysts estimate the supply factor to hover at 90% in Dec 1998 and in Jan and Feb 1999.
