JVC's explorations extract new strengths from VHS format

Article Abstract:

Victor Company of Japan Ltd (JVC), which brought about the widely-popular VHS format for video recording, recently developed the Super VHS Expansion Technology (S-VHS ET). The new technology, which already works with the NTSC signal format, enables standard VHS tapes to offer 400 or more scanning lines in resolution, which ws previously possible only with High Grade Super VHs (S-VHS) tapes. In June 1998, JVS began marketing in the US and Japan, a Super VHS VCR with S-VHS ET capability, which is lower-priced than previous S-VHS VCRs as it uses a common chip for incoming and outgoing signals.

RR-QR240 IC recorders

Article Abstract:

Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd's Y20,000 RR-QR240 and the Y12,500 RR-QR80 IC recorders provides 266 minutes and 60 minutes of recording capacity in the long-play mode, respectively. Offering a 58dB S/N ratio and covering 450 to 5,000Hz, the RR-QR80 and RR-QR240 models offer 15 minutes and 66 minutes of recording capacity in the HQ mode, respectively. Weighing around 66g each, both products are powered by a couple of AAA dry-cell batteries.

Matsushita, JVC race to develop HDTV recorders

Article Abstract:

Japanese consumer electronics manufacturers are racing to develop technologies for recording high-definition television programs. Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd has unveiled a product that employs D-VHS video technology. Meanwhile, Victor Company of Japan Ltd and other companies promised to introduce similar D-VHS products before the end of 2000.
