Microprocessors are being used in almost all electronic instruments, including the simplest of digital multimeters. However, manufacturers are beginning to face the issue that high-end multimeters are becoming too complex and sophisticated to be useful. Microprocessors have become so inexpensive that complicated features can be added at very little cost.

Article Abstract:
As the technology of logic designs allows reduced size and cost, gate-array logic has emerged as the dominant design technique. Topologies available include basic-gate-only, semicustom, and custom arrays. Gate-arrays may be realized in a variety of configurations including NMOS, CMOS, TTL, and ECL.
