Aiwa Co. Ltd. intends to boost business expansion initiatives in the aftermarket, with focus on the US arena, as it plans to register Y10 billion in car audio equipment sales in FY1998, up 100% from FY1997. The company, which offers two tuner models and five CD head units for vehicles as its main products, commenced marketing for a European variant of its car audio sytems, offering compability with the Radio Data System (RDS). Aiwa's car-audio equipment has several popular feature, including the Driver's Sound Stage Adjustment (DSSA) technology, which enables users to modify amp power with a touch of a button.

Visitors at the Society for Information Display trade show in San Jose, CA, in May 1999, witnessed a demonstration of innovative large projectors showing a 35-mm motion picture film that engineers had recorded on a D-5 format digital tape. These projectors included Hughs-JVC Technology Corp's Direct Drive Image Light Amplifier product and Texas Instruments' Digital Light Processing product. Many exhibitors demonstrated flat panel displays.

Fujitsu General Ltd is expanding its product lines and beefing up its marketing efforts as part of a plan to expand its share of the global market for LCD projectors to 10% from around 3%. The company is not in a hurry though as it projects its market share to increase slightly to 4% in fiscal year 1999. Foreign sales account for 80% of the company's total sales of LCD projectors.
