Aiwa sees promise in Europe for TVs, audio systems

Article Abstract:

Japan-based Aiwa Co Ltd is launching its best-selling 14-, 20- and 21-inch color television models in Western Europe in FY 1999. The company will initially ship these models to the European market from plants in the Philippines. If sales for the products increase sufficiently, and if there is a demand for models with larger screens, the company may consider manufacturing TV sets in Europe. Aiwa has been selling TVs in Eastern Europe, especially in Russia, but sales have declined in this region.

Portable audio players by Sanyo, Aiwa set pace with SP3, MP3

Sanyo Electric Company Ltd and Aiwa Company Ltd are among the first cosnumer electronis manufacturers to release portable audio players equipped with leading-edge technologies in digital music. Sanyo has launched SSP-PD7 equipped with a decoding system, which supports more than one compression scheme. Aiwa, on the other hand, has introduced MM-FX500, a portable audio player that features a MPEG Audio Layer 3 encoder.

Digital time lapse VCR from Sanyo Electric

Article Abstract:

Sanyo Electric Company Ltd has unveiled a digital time lapse video cassette recorder (VCR) that uses S-VHS cassette tapes and has the capacity to record 12 to 960 hours. Named, DTL-4800, the the video recording equipment is equipped with a Motion MPEG system for image compression that allows it to produce fine quality pictures with resolutions of more than 520 horizontal lines and an S/N ratio of at least 48dB.
