Mitsubishi Electric Corp's 28W-RA1 digital TV features seven energy-saving functions. It has a flat, 28-inch screen that shows wide-screen images as well as standard features, such as a D-1 terminal and a DVD component terminal. The digital terminal output can be switched by pressing the Component button on the portable controller. The product recognizes many image sources automatically, eliminating the need to switch the input button manually for each source. The set costs $917.

Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd is concentrating on its Hi- Vision and T series of wide-screen color TVs all of which have now flat screens. The basic models of its Hi-Vision line are the 36-in TH-36FH10, the 32-in 32FH10 and the 48-in 48FH10 projection TV. All of its models are equipped with a digital super-progressive circuit and a digital cinema reality circuit that detects a motion picture film and is capable of converting images to progressive signals.

Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd will introduce in Sep 2000 a 36-in digital TV capable of receiving digital broadcast satellite programming that will be available in Japan in DEC 2000. The TV will sell for 480,000 yen. Simultaneously, the company will launch Version 2 of is PiE operating system, which supports all digital broadcasting worldwide. The company hopes that the PiE becomes a global platform for digital TV.
