V-cs oppose quality report

Article Abstract:

The UK Joint Planning Group (JPG) has been criticised for not producing a solution to the issue of quality in higher education in an interim report issued in April 1996. Many vice-chancellors see an increased burden for universities and colleges. The Higher Education Funding Council for England, and the Higher Education Quality Council have both been developing more streamlined systems of quality assurance. Higher education heads are concerned that they will have little say in details of the JPG's proposals.

Making chaos out of disorder

Article Abstract:

College principals believe the higher education sector has become more chaotic following the introduction of poorly-structured quality regulations. The government had hoped to create order in the sector, but academic institutions have suffered an identity crisis, claim the principals. The Quality Assurance Agency sought to classify institutions as either higher education colleges or university colleges, but the institutions have been forced to divide themselves into several different categories.

Derby bites back at QAA report

Article Abstract:

Roger Waterhouse, the vice-chancellor of Derby University, has rejected the Quality Assurance Agency's criticism of the university's management of Inter College in Tel Aviv. An audit by the Agency in 1998 had found no faults.
