The original spin-doctor

Article Abstract:

The method of communication between the UK government and the public will be fundamentally transformed when Treasury spin-doctor Charlie Whelan leaves office, with Whelan demonstrating how the service should not be performed, says Sir Bernard Ingham, formerly a spin-doctor to former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. A postgraduate course in political marketing will be available at Middlesex University business school from February 1999 aimed at producing qualified spin-doctors who will operate within a self-regulating framework. Ingham is a visiting professor in government communication at the school.

Article Abstract:

David Halpern, co-founder of the Nexus leftist think-tank and lecturer at Cambridge University, is set to become a leading player in the UK Labour party. Halpern, aged 30, who teaches social and political science, believes that Labour party leader Tony Blair has a framework of policies that Nexus can support and is looking forward to a Labour government. However, Halpern emphasizes that Nexus has no political affiliations and is involved in a number of cross-party relationships.
