QAA set to float new ranking hierarchy

Preliminary indications show that the Quality Assurance Agency will revamp the way it ranks universities. Under the new plan, inspectors would be able to rank a university on several qualities, acknowledging both strengths and weaknesses. For example, an inspection report may indicate "broad confidence" in one area of the university's offerings, "little confidence" in another area, and "no confidence" in another.

QAA fears bid to beat boycott will erode standards

Article Abstract:

The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), quality watchdog, has warned universities not to risk their academic standards as they introduce emergency measures to beat the exams boycott by unions. The QAA has stepped in after some academics have complained that some institutions were disregarding the integrity of degrees by planning to allow students to progress or graduate without finished the required assessments.

OU acts on quality concerns

Article Abstract:

The standard of degrees awarded by the Open University's (OU) 47 partner institutions around the world is to be called into question by a report by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). It is believed that the QAA has concerns that the OU cannot properly monitor the quality of awards given out in its name due its distance from the activities of its partners.
