Article Abstract:
Asymmetrical devolution in Spain has resulted in fresh opportunities for their regional universities. Some observers suggest a similar situation may arise in the UK, with the devolution of Wales and Scotland. Scottish universities are already taking advantage of differences in Scottish policy and using funding in different ways to their counterparts in England. Some observers suggest the new universities will be able to become more involved with local industries and allow greater access to education for local people. Many universities are already major employers in their communities.

Article Abstract:
The Opus Dei, a Catholic freemason organisation, is thought to have been influencing the appointments at Italian universities and is currently under investigation. It is alleged that jobs within universities all over the country have been given to people who are not necessarily suitable or as qualified as their competition, because they are friends or relatives of the international organisation. The Opus Dei is known to favour ultra-Catholic attitudes.
