PFI: modern estate management's Man Friday

Article Abstract:

Private finance initiative (PFI) contracts allow higher education institutions in the UK to hand over responsibility for estate management to a service provider to enable the institution to focus on education. The university is only required to pay for the estate management services if satisfied with the service quality. PFI funding is usually applicable for further education projects costing over 5 million pounds sterling. The use of PFI in estate management procurement is expected to grow.
