Article Abstract:
A department administrator at the University of York argues that rather than felling stressed and compelled to be busy during her summer vacation, she is instead relaxing. She acknowledges that summer vacations for university staff are slightly less tranquil than they used to be, but suggests that compared to the stress of termtime, the few tasks that need to be done during the summer are a doddle and when academics complain about how busy the summer is, they are really only indulging in self-denial and suffering from guilt at how little they really have to do.
