In defense of schools

Article Abstract:

Two professors in their book 'The Manufactured Crisis' try to eliminate myths that underestimate public education. They point out that though the standardized test scores declined till the mid-1970s, from then on till the 1990s the tests recorded high scores. Almost 97% of a school's fund is used in non-remedial rather than remedial education. It is estimated that an additional spending of $500 per child will raise the achievement test scores over 20 percentile ranks. Public school students perform better than private school students. Educational problems arise mainly due to social causes.
