Funding gap 'exaggerated'

Researchers have concluded that at most, an extra GBP26 million is needed by the Welsh higher education sector to place on on a level funding platform with the English sector. There had been fears that Welsh academics were coping with much lower funding levels than colleagues at English universities.

Labour denies funding crisis

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the attitude of the Labour government of the United Kingdom toward accusations of underfunding in the higher education sector are discussed. It is emphasized that the British Vice Chancellor refused to support one of the eight options proposed for funding higher education.

The concerns expressed by academics in England about accepting funds from British American Tabacco (BAT) are presented. Particular attention is given to the activities employed by the Cancer Research Campaign to highlight the moral issue posed by the BAT funding.
