Against the tide of technology
Article Abstract:
It can be argued that information technology poses as much of a threat to society as biotechnology, but American public concern about information technology is minimal compared with concern over the perceived dangers of biotechnology. As well as intruding on privacy and threatening civil liberties, information technology can be used to manipulate the mind, as in virtual reality. However, America's strong religious tradition means that it is biotechnology that has replaced nuclear power as the focus of public opposition, with talk of deformed transgenic animals and the possibility of 'biohazards.'

Genetic screening
Article Abstract:
The intelligence gene pool is gradually being whittled away, because the people who are intelligent and tend to mix with other people of the same social class are having fewer children than less intelligent people in poor classes. Genetic control is exerted by an assimilation of beliefs communicated through the media. The control of human genetics will affect the social, political and economic aspects of our way of life.

Prospecting for genes; pitfalls of patenting genetic material
Article Abstract:
US scientists who work in biotechnology have been patenting each portion of their discoveries, causing research to be inhibited by proprietary rights on all aspects of genetic research. This has been condemned on the grounds of morality and on the free access usually given other scientists by the publication of research on discoveries.
