Article Abstract:
The US government has accused Ben-Gurion university, Israel, of breaching an agreement relating to the supply of a supercomputer and using the computer for nuclear research. Ben-Gurion University president, Avishai Braverman, argues that the university should not be singled out and have to obtain a license to purchase some US supercomputers. The research at the university is carried out for peaceful goals such as nuclear medicine. The US suspects the university is carrying out research ont he development of nuclear weapons.

Students at Birzeit University, West Bank, are involved in student council elections where the peace process between Israel and Palestine is being discussed. Peace has been a major issue in student politics at the university in the two years to 1995. Islamic Front candidates are concerned about the agreement between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization. Resources could be used for improving facilities for students if they are not used for protesting over the peace process.

The Al Azhar University in Israel was founded in 1991 as an affiliate of Cairo's Al-Azhar University. Over 5,000 students study at the university which includes agriculture, science, education, and pharmacy faculties. It has established links with German, French and US universities and, president Riyad El-khoudary, is keen to broaden the network of cooperation.
