A clean break with oil or just a smokescreen?

Article Abstract:

Many groups are not reassured by the support of George Bush and big business for the development of fuel cells as a pollution-free way to provide power. While fuel cell technology itself is clean, generating the hydrogen required for fuel cells does generate emissions. It is argued that the reason the Bush administration has begun to support a technology that would create an hydrogen-fuel economy is because of fuel security, rather than any desire to deal with the issue of global warming. Others argue that the enthusiasm for fuel cells is simply a way of diverting attention from the US's environmentally damaging over-reliance on the car and its reluctance to deal with the problem of emissions.
