Article Abstract:

Despite Alabama law prohibiting fraternities and sororities from being segregated, not many examples exist of African-Americans in typically all-white organizations. Problems with discrimination laws in higher education complicate the issues. Article presents information on a Halloween incident at Auburn University in which students dressed in Ku Klux Klan robes and had a simulated lynching.

UK graduations leap into the top ranks

Article Abstract:

The UK graduation rate rose to 35% of young people in 1997 from 20% in 1990, according to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. The UK has the highest number of graduates in the European Union and more than the US.

Serbia ousts old guard

Article Abstract:

Many deans from Serbian Universities are being dismissed or have resigned from their posts following Slobodan Milosevic's loss of office in 2000. It is hoped that universities will soon be able to return to self government.
