The private admissions consulting industry in the US is growing and since 1996, membership of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), professional body for private admissions consultants, has grown to 550 from 150. An IECA poll in November 2005 found that of the 1.2 million US students enrolled at four-year degree granting institutions, 84,000 had hired a consultant.
