Article Abstract:

The UK government has introduced new funding strategies and policies in education throughout 1998. Some 338 million pounds sterling over two years was awarded to further education and 445 million pounds sterling over two years was allocated to higher education in Jul 1998. The government also recommended some 700,000 additional students were enrolled in colleges by 2001-02 in Dec 1998. The idea of lifelong learning was supported by the government in Feb 1998. The European research programme was decided in Nov 1998, with some 10.5 billion pounds sterling been awarded to the scheme.

Article Abstract:

Six volumes on Irish migration will be published in 1993. They will focus on such themes as the new communities created, Irish women, religion and famine. Migrants leaving Ireland have founded substantial communities in such countries as the UK and US, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico. The first volume looks at the Irish in the 16th century up to present-day illegal immigrants in the US. The second volume covers how the Irish moved round the globe and how they carried their Irishness with them.
