Union wage differentials in an era of declining unionization

Article Abstract:

The fall in union wage differentials in the UK between 1984 and 1990 is examined. The results, which were based on the 1984 and 1990 Workplace Industrial Relations Surveys, reflects the increase in legislative power of the state and the fall in union membership as well as underscores the changes in collective bargaining arrangements that occured during the same period. The impact of the birth and death of establishments on union wage differentials is also discussed.

Testing superexogeneity: the demand for broad money in the UK

Article Abstract:

The application of the Lucas critique as a forward looking buffer stock model for the demand for broad money in the UK is tested. The test of superexogeneity reveals that the Lucas critique is not applicable even to broader monetary aggregates as suggested by some analysts. This was unexpected considering the constancy of the model conditional on observed prices, interest rate and wealth.
