Trade policy and environmental protection

Article Abstract:

The conflict between trade and environmental policy and the possible ways of eliminating or reducing such conflict are examined. Several guidelines are proposed that may ease frictions between these two policy areas. These are the Principle of First-Best Solution, the Principle of Non-Discrimination, the Principle of Necessity, the Principle of the Limits of Territorial Sovereignty, the Principle of Country-of-Origin, and the Principle of Determining Product Similarity from the Demand Side. A multilateral environmental order is described.

However, joint consideration of trade policy and environmental policy is highly probable as a result of more advanced technologies, availability of more funds, in addition to multilateral organizations.
