Toward a macroeconomics of the medium run

Article Abstract:

There is a need for more work on models of general equilibrium in macroeconomics. There has been a rise in interest in growth theory which has eased off, leaving models available for use. There is still a need for further work in some areas such as open economy growth models. Relationships between wages and prices, inflation and unemployment also need to be reassessed. Phenonmena that deserve attention include different unemployment trends in Europe in the two decades to 2000, and Japanese stagnation of the 1990s.

The future of microeconomic theory

Article Abstract:

Theory needs good questions and a lack of assumptions that point to an answer. There is a need for rigor in economic research, and maths can help achieve this. Researchers may also not follow through their theories sufficiently. Biology and engineering are disciplines that can provide insights into economics. Game theory, such as network theory, can provide useful avenues for economic theory. There is a need for more work on technology and its economic aspects.
